Chengdu Open: Tabilo Stuns Darderi, Nakashima Advances

Chilean qualifier Alejandro Tabilo scored one of his biggest wins of the year by defeating Italy’s No. 2 seed Luciano Darderi 6-4, 6-3 in the Round of 16 at the Chengdu Open on Friday.

Tabilo, once ranked as high as No. 19 before slipping outside the Top 100, delivered a near-flawless performance. He fired 12 aces against just one double fault, saved all four break points he faced, and converted both opportunities to break Darderi’s serve.

He now moves on to face Australia’s Christopher O’Connell, who dispatched Yi Zhou 6-2, 6-4.

Brandon Nakashima Eliminates Defending Champion

American Brandon Nakashima, the No. 4 seed, knocked out defending champion Juncheng Shang of China 7-5, 6-3. Nakashima’s strong baseline game and consistency proved too much for Shang, who couldn’t find answers against the American’s return pressure.

In the quarterfinals, Nakashima will face compatriot Marcos Giron, who took down Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego, the No. 8 seed, 6-4, 6-4.

Lynx & Co Hangzhou Open: Korda, Zhang Advance

At the Lynx & Co Hangzhou Open, American Sebastian Korda blasted 20 aces past Australia’s Adam Walton in a 7-5, 6-3 victory to move into the Round of 16.

Korda showed impressive composure on serve, using his power game to control the match from start to finish.

Zhang Wins All-Chinese Clash

Last year’s runner-up Zhizhen Zhang survived a scare against Yunchaokete Bu, coming from behind to win 6-7 (2), 6-4, 7-6 (3). Zhang leaned on his experience in front of the home crowd to edge out the younger challenger in a thriller.
