Manaka Matsukubo and Brianna Pinto delivered early goals as the North Carolina Courage earned their first win in seven matches, edging Angel City FC 2-1 in Cary, N.C.

The Courage (6-7-7, 25 points) have now beaten Angel City twice this season, both by 2-1 scorelines.

Early Goals Seal It

Matsukubo opened the scoring in the sixth minute, her sixth goal of the season, finishing a feed from Payton Linnehan with a right-footed strike that curled into the left side of the net. Pinto doubled the lead in the 20th minute, capitalizing on a deflected ball for her third goal of the campaign.

Sveindis Jonsdottir pulled one back in the 88th minute for Angel City (6-9-5, 23 points), notching her first goal in seven matches, but it wasn’t enough.

Courage keeper Marisa Bova made two saves, while Angel City’s Angelina Anderson was busier with five stops. Angel City has now lost back-to-back games after previously earning points in four straight.

At Exploria Stadium, Orlando Pride’s Ally Watt scored in the 70th minute to secure a 1-1 draw with Bay FC.

The Pride (8-7-5, 29 points) extended their winless streak in league play to eight matches, while Bay FC (4-10-6, 18 points) snapped a four-game losing streak but remain winless in nine.

How It Happened

Bay FC struck first in first-half stoppage time when Racheal Kundananji rose for a header off a lofted pass from Caprice Dydasco. Watt answered in the second half, heading home Lizbeth Ovalle’s long delivery to even things up.

Goalkeeping Battle

Bay keeper Jordan Silkowitz came up big with seven saves, while Orlando’s McKinley Crone recorded four.
