MLB roundup: Parker Messick, Guardians blank Rays

Curious about market angles after a night packed with late rallies and walk-offs? Brush up on how to bet on baseball and keep an eye on favorites vs. short dogs with these practical MLB moneyline tips.

Guardians 3, Rays 0

Parker Messick punched out six over seven sparkling frames for his first big-league win, and Cleveland snapped a six-game skid with a three-run first that ended a 28-inning drought. Kyle Manzardo and Brayan Rocchio delivered RBI singles, Bo Naylor added a sac fly, and that was plenty as Messick matched a rare debut-two-start line shared only with Joe Musgrove. Shane Baz took the loss despite six solid innings.

Mets 6, Phillies 5

New York coughed up a 5–2 lead but walked it off when Brandon Nimmo roped his fifth career game-winner in the ninth. Edwin Díaz retired all five batters he faced (four K) to set the stage, and the Mets crept within five of the NL East lead.

Brewers 9, Diamondbacks 8

Milwaukee blew a six-run advantage, then manufactured the winner when Isaac Collins lifted a bases-loaded sac fly in the ninth. William Contreras ignited the rally; Arizona’s late surge erased deficits of 6–0 and 8–3 before the Brewers closed it out.

Braves 11, Marlins 2

Atlanta detonated for nine in the ninth, kicked off by a Vidal Bruján RBI double, while Ozzie Albies clubbed two homers and drove in four. Hurston Waldrep worked 5 1/3 innings of one-run ball, and Miami’s bullpen unraveled late.

Red Sox 5, Orioles 0

Lucas Giolito carved for eight shutout frames (8 K, 1 BB), overshadowing Kyle Bradish’s encouraging TJ return that included 10 strikeouts. Boston’s pop came via Trevor Story and David Hamilton solo shots, and the Sox have won five of six.

Padres 7, Mariners 6

Ramon Laureano’s grand slam staked San Diego to a fast start, but after Seattle answered with a pair of three-run homers, the Padres rallied again on Jake Cronenworth’s RBI single and a Freddy Fermín go-ahead bunt. Adrian Morejón struck out the side in the sixth; Robert Suárez locked down save No. 35.

Yankees 5, Nationals 1

Giancarlo Stanton drove in five (bases-clearing double, two-run HR) and Luis Gil limited Washington to one run over five innings. New York’s pen slammed the door while Cody Bellinger scored twice and added two hits.

Dodgers 6, Reds 3

Clayton Kershaw rolled through five innings (one run, two hits) for his fifth straight win, and Enrique Hernández’s RBI in his return to the lineup provided the lead. Will Smith homered as L.A. claimed the first two in the set.

Twins 7, Blue Jays 5

Down 4–3 in the ninth, the Twins tied it on Mickey Gasper’s first MLB homer and won it on Matt Wallner’s two-out three-run blast. George Springer’s two dingers (4-for-5) weren’t enough as Minnesota evened the series.

Royals 5, White Sox 4

Chicago led 4–0 after seven, but Michael Massey’s two-run single tied it and Kyle Isbel’s RBI knock in the ninth completed Kansas City’s comeback. Martin Pérez tossed seven scoreless for the Sox before the bullpen faltered.

Pirates 8, Cardinals 3

Henry Davis homered and drove in two, Andrew McCutchen plated a pair, and Mitch Keller handled six innings as Pittsburgh took five of six. Nolan Gorman’s two-run shot provided most of St. Louis’ offense.

Rangers 7, Angels 3

Patrick Corbin (season-high eight scoreless, 8 K) dominated while Kyle Higashioka, Corey Seager, and Michael Helman went deep. Yusei Kikuchi labored through four innings as Texas notched its fourth win in five.

Giants 5, Cubs 2

Justin Verlander finally found the W column again (6 IP, 2 ER), backed by homers from Wilmer Flores and Matt Chapman and a three-hit night for Heliot Ramos. Ryan Walker collected save No. 12.

Athletics 7, Tigers 6 (10)

Detroit took a 10th-inning lead, but Oakland answered with two, walking it off on a bases-loaded free pass to Darell Hernaiz. Jacob Wilson homered and drove in four; Riley Greene mashed his first career grand slam for the Tigers.

Rockies 6, Astros 1

Tanner Gordon won his third straight start (6 IP, 1 R) as Hunter Goodman blasted his 26th and Mickey Moniak added a multi-hit, multi-RBI night. Four Colorado pitchers combined to allow just three hits.
