Taiwan 7, Venezuela 3

The Tung-Yaun LL team from Taiwan remained unbeaten after defeating Barquisimeto, Venezuela, 7-3 on Wednesday in Williamsport, Pa. The Asia-Pacific representatives wasted no time, scoring twice in the first inning on a pair of bases-loaded walks by Andres Reyes Querales.

After adding another run the same way in the fourth, Taiwan broke the game open with a three-run fifth inning. Chen Qi-Sheng was the difference-maker, delivering a bases-clearing double as part of his 2-for-2 performance with two runs scored and three RBIs.

Venezuela attempted a comeback in the bottom of the fifth with three runs, capped by Abraham Rodriguez’s RBI single, but the Latin America team couldn’t close the gap.

Connecticut 7, Nevada 3

In the day’s second matchup, Fairfield, Conn., rallied from an early deficit to defeat Las Vegas, Nev., and secure its spot in the U.S. final.

Nevada jumped ahead quickly when Cache Malan blasted a three-run homer in the first inning. But Connecticut responded with three runs in the third on back-to-back RBI singles from Luca Pellegrini and SJ Taxiltaridis.

Pellegrini struck again in the fifth with another RBI single to give Connecticut a 4-3 lead. In the sixth, Fairfield put the game away with three more runs, highlighted by Tommy D’Amura’s solo home run.

Connecticut finished with 12 hits spread across eight different players. Taxiltaridis also impressed on the mound, going 5 1/3 innings and allowing three runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.
