MLB roundup: Reds end Brewers’ franchise-record win streak

The Milwaukee Brewers’ franchise single-season record 14-game win streak came to an end Sunday when Austin Hays of the host Cincinnati Reds singled in TJ Friedl in the bottom of the 10th inning for a 3-2 victory.

Spencer Steer bunted automatic runner Friedl over to third to start the 10th. Milwaukee intentionally walked Elly De La Cruz and Will Benson before Hays drove the game-winner down the left-field line.

William Contreras hit a two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning off Reds closer Emilio Pagan to give the Brewers a 2-1 lead. Cincinnati, which remains the only team in the major leagues not to be swept this season, scored an unearned run in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings for the second straight game.

Reds right-hander Graham Ashcraft (7-4) pitched a scoreless 10th for the win. Right-hander Grant Anderson (2-4) blew the save in the ninth and then took the loss in the 10th.

Dodgers 5, Padres 4

After San Diego erased a 4-0 deficit, Mookie Betts drilled a home run to lead off the bottom of the eighth and give host Los Angeles a sweep of the three-game series.

The Dodgers took a 4-0 lead in the first on Freddie Freeman’s three-run homer and Andy Pages’ solo shot. Starter Tyler Glasnow struck out eight over five innings while allowing six hits, two runs and one walk. Alex Vesia (3-2) retired all five batters he faced to close the game.

Luis Arraez collected three hits and Ramon Laureano went 2-for-3 with a solo homer for the Padres. Starter Yu Darvish gave up four runs on three hits and two walks over four innings. Robert Suarez (4-5) surrendered Betts’ game-winning homer.

Phillies 11, Nationals 9

Alec Bohm and Nick Castellanos homered as Philadelphia held on to defeat host Washington.

The Phillies, who blew an early 6-0 lead, earned a split in the four-game series. Bohm, returning to action from the 10-day injured list (rib), drove in three runs and scored twice in his first game since July 18.

The Nationals, who got a three-run homer from Paul DeJong — his sixth — in the ninth to make it close, had won three of their last four.

Marlins 5, Red Sox 3

Dane Myers and Jakob Marsee each homered during a three-run ninth inning that allowed visiting Miami to avoid a three-game sweep by earning a come-from-behind victory over Boston.

The Marlins trailed 3-2 entering the ninth, but Myers led off the inning with a game-tying home run against Greg Weissert (4-4). Marsee hit a two-run home run against Steven Matz later in the inning that handed Miami a two-run lead.

The Marlins also received a solo home run from Eric Wagaman. Wilyer Abreu hit a two-run home run for the Red Sox, who beat the Marlins 2-1 Friday night and 7-5 Saturday. The victory ended Miami’s three-game losing streak.

Dansby Swanson delivered two RBIs, including the go-ahead run in the eighth inning, to help host Chicago to a 4-3 win over Pittsburgh.

The Cubs went ahead against reliever Isaac Mattson (3-2). With the bases loaded and one out, Swanson hit a sacrifice fly that brought in Carson Kelly.
