Top 25 roundup: Florida upsets No. 10 Kentucky in OT

Tyrese Samuel had a double-double, Walter Clayton Jr. made two crucial 3-pointers en route to 23 points and visiting Florida upset No. 10 Kentucky 94-91 in overtime on Wednesday night in Lexington, Ky.

Samuel finished with 22 points and 13 rebounds and Clayton made a 3-pointer to force overtime and hit another to give the Gators (15-6, 5-3 Southeastern Conference) the lead for good in the extra session. Zyon Pullin added 21 points.

Reed Sheppard scored 24 points, Rob Dillingham had 20, Antonio Reeves scored 19 and Ugonna Onyenso had 13 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Wildcats (15-5, 5-3).

The score was tied at 86-all before Tre Mitchell made a free throw to give the Wildcats the lead with 2:49 left in overtime. Clayton answered with his 3-pointer and Pullin made 3 of 4 free throws to give the Gators a 92-87 edge with 32 seconds left to put the game away.

No. 1 UConn 74, Providence 65 Freshman Stephon Castle scored a career-high 20 points to lead the Huskies past the Friars in Storrs, Conn. The longtime rivals combined for 48 fouls and 23 missed free throws, but the Huskies (19-2, 9-1 Big East) made 21 of their 25 foul shots in the second half en route to their ninth straight win. Tristen Newton contributed 16 points and 11 rebounds for UConn, and Cam Spencer added 15 points. Josh Oduro and Devin Carter each logged 20 points and nine rebounds for Providence (14-7, 5-5), which had won three in a row.

No. 2 Purdue 105, Northwestern 96 (OT)

Zach Edey scored 10 of his 30 points in overtime and Lance Jones added 26 points as the Boilermakers topped the visiting Wildcats in West Lafayette, Ind.

Fletcher Loyer scored 15 points and Braden Smith had 11 points with a career-high 16 assists for Purdue (20-2, 9-2 Big Ten), which shot 57.9 percent from the floor and won the rebounding battle 36-22. The Boilermakers have won at least 20 games for the eighth time in the past 10 seasons.

Boo Buie and Ty Berry each scored 25 points as Northwestern (15-6, 6-4) saw its two-game winning streak come to an end. Brooks Barnhizer scored 14 points and Ryan Langborg added 12 for the Wildcats, who shot 57.6 percent from the floor.

No. 16 Auburn 81, Vanderbilt 54 Jaylin Williams scored 21 points on 7-of-9 shooting as the Tigers rolled over the visiting Commodores in Southeastern Conference play. Denver Jones scored a season-best 19 points and Johni Broome recorded 16 points, 11 rebounds and five blocked shots for Auburn (17-4, 6-2 SEC), which halted a two-game slide. Chad Baker-Mazara added 11 points for the Tigers, who never trailed and improved to 11-0 at home. Ven-Allen Lubin had season highs of 17 points and 12 rebounds for Vanderbilt (5-15, 0-7), which lost its seventh straight game and 14th in the past 16. Evan Taylor scored 14 points and Tyrin Lawrence put up 12 points for the Commodores, who are 0-5 on the road.

Langston Love poured in a career-high 24 points, hitting two key free throws with 40 seconds to play, as the Bears came from behind to beat the Knights in Orlando.

Baylor (15-5, 4-3 Big 12) snapped a three-game losing streak, while UCF (12-8, 3-5) fell for the third time in four games.

Darius Johnson led the Knights with 23 points and 10 assists before fouling out with 25 seconds remaining. Avery added 16 points, while Jaylin Sellers hit for 14 in the loss. UCF missed six of its seven free throws in the game.

Boise State 86, No. 19 New Mexico 78

Senior Max Rice scored a career-high 35 points, sinking a career-best seven 3-pointers, as the Broncos upset the Lobos in Albuquerque, N.M.

Chibuzo Agbo added 16 points and seven rebounds and O’Mar Stanley finished with 12 points and 14 rebounds for Boise State (15-6, 6-2 Mountain West), which won for the third time in four games.

New Mexico (18-4, 6-3) was led by sophomore Donovan Dent’s career-high 31 points.
