Knicks acquire Bojan Bogdanovic, Alec Burks from Pistons

The New York Knicks acquired forward Bojan Bogdanovic and guard Alec Burks from the Detroit Pistons ahead of Thursday’s NBA trade deadline.

In exchange, the Pistons received guards Quentin Grimes, Evan Fournier, Malachi Flynn and Ryan Arcidiacono as well as two future second-round draft picks.

“We’re thrilled to add Bojan Bogdanovic to the Knicks family and welcome back Alec Burks,” Knicks president Leon Rose said in a statement. “Bojan brings a tremendous amount of basketball experience to our team, both from the NBA and internationally. He is an elite scorer who has solidified himself as one of the best shooters in the NBA, which will complement our team.

“Alec played an integral role throughout our 2020-21 playoff season, understands and embraces the culture here and will bring a lot of value to our group.”

Bogdanovic, 34, is averaging 20.2 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 28 games (27 starts) this season. He is making 41.5 percent of his shots from 3-point range.

Burks, 32, has posted 12.6 points, 2.6 boards and 1.6 assists in 43 games off the bench for Detroit. He played for the Knicks for two seasons (2020-22), averaging 12.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists for them.

Grimes, 23, was averaging 7.3 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 45 games (18 starts) in his third season with the Knicks.

Fournier, 31, has played in just three games this season, contributing 4.0 points and 1.3 boards.

Flynn, 25, has averaged 2.2 points in 14 games off the bench this season.

Arcidiacono, 29, has yet to score a point in 20 games off the bench this campaign. He has played just 45 total minutes.

The Pistons later announced that they requested waivers on guards Killian Hayes and Joe Harris.

The 22-year-old Hayes, the seventh overall pick of the 2020 draft, was averaging 6.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 4.9 assists in 42 games (31 starts) this season. He shot 41.3 percent from the field and 29.7 percent from beyond the arc.

Harris, 32, played in just 16 games, coming off the bench in all of them. The two-time NBA leader in 3-point shooting percentage averaged 2.4 points.

Detroit also agreed to acquire Danuel House Jr., a 2024 second-round draft pick and cash from the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for a 2028 second-round pick. The Pistons proceeded to waive House, who averaged 4.2 points in 34 games (four starts) for the 76ers this season.

The Pistons, with just seven wins, have the worst record in the NBA. The Knicks are 33-18 and tied with the Milwaukee Bucks for the third-best record in the Eastern Conference.
